Firefighters tackle wildfires in several areas in Greece

Wildfires are raging across multiple regions in Greece, with strong winds exacerbating the situation. Large-scale firefighting efforts and emergency evacuations are underway, particularly near Athens. The crisis comes as conditions worsened in parts of Spain and France, where several villages have been destroyed due to the heatwave and little rainfall.

In France, a fire in the mountainous southeastern Var department, which had been under control three days ago, reignited, consuming over 1,000 hectares in just six hours. Nearly 2,500 people were evacuated overnight, and firefighters have since brought in reinforcements as winds are expected to intensify. Spain continues to face several wildfire hotspots, with two days after the government declared the end of a national emergency.

In Greece, emergency alerts have been issued for several areas, warning of an extreme wildfire risk in the regions of Attica and Evia. Over 300 firefighters, 92 trucks, heavy machinery, and aircraft are battling a conflagration in the Boeotia region, where more than 200 residents had to be evacuated by sea.
