European Search Perspective

European Search Perspective, a joint venture of Ecosia and Qwant, is establishing a European web index. This comprehensive directory will provide an alternative results provider for small search engines, startups, and the European data and AI industry. Currently, 99% of European search queries are answered by just two US-based companies, and a Russian state-owned company handles the remainder.

The European digital economy heavily relies on technology, making a new AI technology dependent on large data amounts, often sourced from competitors. The proposed index aims to address data security, privacy, and sustainability concerns while offering tailored services to specific audiences. It will also be a valuable resource for AI startups seeking an independent and secure data basis for training purposes.

European Search Perspective is designed to foster diversity, security, and sovereignty in the digital world. The joint venture will begin operations as a partial index in France and Germany, with initial results expected in summer 2025.
