Chelsea confirm Welbeck signing from Brighton

Chelsea has officially confirmed the signing of striker Danny Welbeck from Brighton. The 35-year-old forward, previously at Manchester United and Arsenal, has agreed to a two-year contract with the London club. The exact transfer fee remains undisclosed. Welbeck netted a career-best 13 goals in the Premier League during his 37 appearances for Brighton last season, with just three English players scoring more.

This move marks Chelsea's third summer signing, following Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa and Marco Palestra from Atalanta.

Welbeck expressed his excitement about joining Chelsea, stating, "I know a few of the boys already and I've had fantastic conversations with the manager and already feel that connection." Welbeck began his career at Manchester United and later signed for Arsenal for £16 million in 2014. He spent five years at Arsenal before joining Watford, and subsequently transferred to Brighton in 2020 after a single season with the Hornets. Despite his age, Welbeck has 16 goals in 42 appearances for England, with his last cap in 2018. He was not selected for Thomas Tuchel's 2026 World Cup squad.

The former Manchester United and Arsenal striker's signing comes as Chelsea has been building one of Europe's youngest squads in recent years.
