Review: The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra ticks every box, but it’s the boring option now

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is positioned as the more refined and feature-rich foldable compared to its sibling, the Galaxy Z Fold 8. The differences between the two models are minimal, with only a few enhancements such as an improved camera, battery, and minor refinements. Despite these upgrades, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra may not be exciting enough for users, as it is essentially a more advanced version of the Galaxy Z Fold 8.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is known for its robust build quality, and the Ultra version maintains this high standard. The thickness of the phone has decreased slightly, from 4.2mm to 4.1mm, while still incorporating a stronger hinge design with "flex titanium" under the inner display. This enhancement has made the phone feel snappier and more satisfying to fold and unfold, although it can occasionally be tricky to open due to the lack of sufficient grip.

The phone is surprisingly lightweight, and it doesn't feel burdensome to carry around daily. Its height may pose challenges for pocket storage, but this is not an issue exclusive to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. The device exudes a less futuristic appeal compared to its predecessor, simply being a well-built foldable phone.

The camera setup, though advanced, may not be a significant selling point for users. Despite the intricate design, the trio of lenses integrated into the phone is acceptable and not as problematic as it could be given its relatively thin profile. While the smartphone's aesthetic remains consistent regardless of whether it is folded or unfolded, the Violet Shadow color variant presents a sleek and neutral appearance suitable for most situations.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra boasts a robust, satisfying feel in the hand, with solid points of contact and a visually appealing frosted back panel. The logo subtly appears only when the phone is unfolded, adding a touch of elegance. Samsung has not incorporated Qi2 magnetic capabilities under the rear panel, despite the potential benefits of wireless charging in various scenarios. Nevertheless, accessory makers have largely adopted these magnets, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of accessories.
