The alleged mastermind of Manzo's murder, according to García Harfuch, ordered and financed the assassination, making him the main culprit in the case.

The motive for Manzo's murder was reportedly "provocation," stemming from Manzo's hardline anti-crime stance and his presence at security operations in Uruapan. Manzo, who was known for advocating forceful action against criminal groups, was present during several federal security operations where arrests were made.
