2027 iPhone 18 rumors: Smaller Dynamic Island, 12GB or 9GB RAM, 2nm A20 chip

Apple's upcoming second-generation iPhone Air is reportedly undergoing significant refinements, according to a recent supply chain report. The device, expected to launch in early 2027, will maintain its slim profile while introducing a smaller Dynamic Island, upgraded camera system, and next-generation silicon. Analyst Jeff Pu suggests the iPhone Air 2 will retain the 6.55-inch display of its predecessor but will make the Dynamic Island less intrusive by reducing its size.

This change will provide more usable screen space, making the display feel cleaner during regular use.

The camera system is also expected to receive a major upgrade, featuring a new 48-megapixel ultra-wide sensor alongside the existing 48-megapixel main camera. This addition will give the Air a more versatile imaging setup, bridging the gap between Apple's premium and mainstream iPhones. Under the hood, the device will likely be powered by the A20 Pro chip, built on TSMC's 2nm process using Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module (WMCM) packaging.

The chip will reportedly integrate memory closer to the processor, improving both performance and power efficiency.

Additionally, the iPhone Air 2 is expected to come with 12GB of RAM, a titanium frame, and Apple's next-generation C2 modem, replacing the original Air's C1X modem. These upgrades collectively highlight Apple's focus on addressing practical shortcomings of the original device, rather than reinventing the identity. The timeline aligns with Apple's broader roadmap, with the iPhone Air 2 expected to be unveiled alongside the base iPhone 18 in the first quarter of 2027.
