Nexus Data Centers in advanced talks to secure $15B for Google-backed Anthropic data center

Morgan Stanley is leading advanced negotiations to provide $15 billion in financing to Nexus Data Centers for the construction of a substantial artificial intelligence infrastructure project tailored for Anthropic, as confirmed by CNBC on Thursday. The funds will be utilized to construct a data center campus situated in Hubbard, Texas.

According to a source familiar with the discussions, Google has committed to supporting Anthropic's investment by leveraging its investment-grade credit rating. The Wall Street Journal was the first to report on this significant deal. Anthropic has been actively engaged with numerous infrastructure partners throughout the year, signing multiple agreements in an effort to augment its computational resources.

The company recently finalized a partnership with Advanced Micro Devices in early April, followed by collaborations with SpaceX in May and Google and Broadcom in the same month. Google also announced in April its intention to invest up to $40 billion in Anthropic, building upon their existing partnership. In 2023, Google had previously invested $300 million in the AI lab, acquiring a stake of approximately 10%, followed by an additional $2 billion investment later that same year.

Both Anthropic and Nexus Data Centers have chosen not to comment on the matter. Google has also yet to respond to inquiries from CNBC regarding this development. Morgan Stanley has similarly declined to provide any comment on the situation.
