Almost the Entire Country Is Drowning in Cases of Explosive Diarrhea

Since May 1, over 6,700 cases of explosive diarrhea caused by the Cyclospora cayetanensis parasite have been confirmed in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Health officials are still investigating the source of the outbreak, with Taylor Farms' bagged shredded lettuce initially suspected but later deemed a "false positive."

Michigan and Ohio have been identified as the two hotspots, with Michigan alone surpassing the 10,000 case threshold. No fatalities have been reported, but there have been 423 hospitalizations so far. To protect oneself from the parasite, health experts recommend thoroughly washing fruits and vegetables or cooking them, as heat kills the microscopic critters.
