Google has agreed to join the EU AI Act Code of Practice on Transparency of AI-Generated Content. This move follows Google's 2025 signing of the GPAI Code of Practice and reflects the company's commitment to responsible AI use in Europe. Google's efforts to promote transparency in AI-generated content include the development of SynthID, an industry-leading digital watermarking technology that helps users discern how content was created and edited.

Google has also been collaborating with third-party AI labs such as Apple, Eleven Labs, Kakao, NVIDIA, and OpenAI to encourage the adoption of interoperable watermarking tools using SynthID. While Google supports transparency, it expresses concerns that excessive regulatory complexity could undermine Europe's goals of competitiveness and simplicity.

Moreover, Google warns that inundating online content with multiple AI labels and legal disclosures might hinder users' ability to comprehend the context needed to make informed decisions about the content they encounter online. As the code is implemented, Google pledges to collaborate with regulators and partners to devise practical solutions that deliver genuine transparency and empower users to make informed choices about the online content they consume.
