Covid-19 waking up, Cyclospora marches on, and measles is close to hitting a milestone

Public health continues to be a challenging situation, with various diseases making their presence known. This report provides an update on the state of Covid-19, measles, and Cyclospora outbreaks. Covid-19 is gradually making a comeback, with a noticeable increase in several regions, particularly in the West. Although the overall spread remains low, the situation is expected to worsen as immunity fades.

People over 65 who have not received their spring Covid-19 vaccine are advised to get vaccinated. Measles is also making headlines, with the U.S. reporting 2,278 cases this year, nearing the total for all of 2025. Pennsylvania, Utah, Arizona, and Wyoming are among the states experiencing outbreaks. Measles cases continue to be predominantly among the unvaccinated.

For those with an infant under 12 months, vaccination is recommended if they are near an outbreak. Cyclospora cases have surged, with over 11,000 cases reported across 46 states, nearly tripling the usual annual number. The outbreak is attributed to travelers bringing the parasite back from abroad and new outbreaks emerging in various states.
