You love her on 'Ghosts' but Rose McIver's darkest, funniest supernatural role is now streaming on Prime Video
'iZombie' offers a unique take on the familiar topic of the undead.
As much as many zombie films and TV series have failed to impress, the show "iZombie" has managed to stand out by offering a fresh take on the tired genre. "iZombie" combines familiar zombie elements with a unique twist, creating a supernatural drama that never fails to entertain. Created by "Veronica Mars" veterans Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero-Wright, the series aired on The CW from 2015 to 2019 but never reached the same level of popularity as other CW genre shows.
One major reason for this might be its star, Rose McIver, who delivers a breakout performance as assistant medical examiner Liv Moore. McIver's portrayal of Liv is both likable and snarky, bringing a fresh perspective to the role of a woman who, after a tragic night out, becomes a zombie with a unique set of abilities. Instead of being a mindless, grunting corpse, Liv retains her personality and uses her zombie condition to help solve crimes in Seattle.
In addition to its innovative approach to the zombie genre, "iZombie" also boasts a rich ensemble of characters, each with their own quirks and personalities. From the hunky fiancé of Liv's deceased fiancé to a dominatrix zombie, the series explores a wide range of personalities that keep viewers engaged and entertained. The show also incorporates elements of a crime procedural, with Liv working alongside Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti in the police morgue to aid in murder investigations.
As the series progresses, "iZombie" expands its universe, introducing an entire subculture of zombies and delving into the effects of brain-eating. Despite some ambitious moments in its later seasons, the show generally maintains a strong episodic procedural structure, providing Liv with the opportunity to adopt various personas and bring justice to the victims of murder. Rose McIver's performance shines throughout the series, showcasing her versatility as a comedic and dramatic actor.
For fans of zombie stories looking for something new and refreshing, "iZombie" is a must-watch. Stream it on Prime Video now and discover why this series has become a beloved favorite among fans of the genre.
