Will UFC's Dana White be Trump's press secretary?

US President Donald Trump has suggested that UFC boss Dana White could potentially serve as White House press secretary. After initially proposing the idea on Saturday, Trump expanded on the notion on Sunday with a post featuring a cartoon of White leading a press briefing. The image depicts reporters being physically removed from the room, which could cause controversy given the Trump administration's strained relationship with the media.

Despite being a long-time supporter of Trump, White is unlikely to accept the role if it were to become a reality. In June, the UFC organized the first professional sports event on the South Lawn of the White House, an event marred by controversial comments from an athlete about former first lady Michelle Obama. White later distanced himself from those remarks.

On Saturday, White announced he would travel to Washington on Monday for a meeting with Trump, though he did not elaborate on the purpose of the visit. Speculation surrounding the role has intensified following a disastrous press briefing from Katie Zacharia, who was appointed as press secretary in her place of the departing Karoline Leavitt.

Zacharia's interview on Fox News was criticized for her lack of preparedness, and she resigned after just five days on the job, leaving the position unfilled.
