Trump vows comeback as bitter showdown with Congress looms
The devastating midterm results have left the US president politically hamstrung as he enters the final two-year 'lame-duck' period of his White House tenure.
Donald Trump has vowed a political comeback following the Democrats' control of committees in both chambers of Congress. The midterm elections saw Republicans lose control, leaving Trump in a "lame duck" period. Democrats threaten to prosecute top administration officials, subjecting Trump, his family, and senior administration members to potential investigations.
Trump, on social media, vowed to return bigger and stronger, naming a hardline advisor Stephen Miller as chief of staff. Democrats, including the new Speaker of the House Hakeem Jeffries, have vowed to hold Trump and his aides accountable, considering actions such as impeaching Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
