LAHORE: The PML-N has retained Sahiwal's Punjab Assembly constituency PP-203 following Sunday's by-election, with counting ongoing in Gujranwala's National Assembly constituency NA-77. Both seats became vacant after the deaths of their respective lawmakers in September. The PML-N's Muhammad Asad Hanif Jutt won PP-203 with 42,114 votes, defeating Muhammad Awais Mahmood of Tehreek-i-Ehsas Pakistan (TEP) who garnered 24,512 votes.
Voter turnout was recorded at 27.6 percent. The by-election was held in response to the death of PML-N MPA Chaudhry Muhammad Hanif Jutt. This is the second such by-election in the constituency since the 2024 general elections. In NA-77, PML-N candidate Rashid Basheer Virk is among 11 contestants vying for the seat following his father Chaudhry Mehmood Bashir Virk's death on September 11.
The final outcome in this constituency remains to be determined as the available results have not yet confirmed the winner.
