PM Shehbaz, Nawaz discuss ‘matters of national importance’ as Sharifs gather at Lahore's Jati Umra

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with PML-N President Nawaz Sharif at the leader's residence in Lahore's Jati Umra on Sunday, discussing "national importance" issues, according to state-run Radio Pakistan. The two leaders held comprehensive talks on the country's political landscape and other crucial matters, with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Nawaz's daughter, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, in attendance.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz provided an update on the law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), as well as recent initiatives aimed at the province's growth and prosperity. The Centre had imposed emergency and governor's rule in KP since October 11, citing the provincial government's "deliberate disengagement" from the fight against terrorism. The new administrative setup led by Governor Faisal Karim Kundi emphasized that enhancing counterterrorism measures was their top priority.

Both Shehbaz and his brother Nawaz defended the decision to impose the emergency, with the premier stating that the federal government was "compelled" to take the step due to security concerns, while the elder Sharif argued that the intervention should have occurred earlier. The meeting also focused on ways to bolster the national economy, with the premier informing Nawaz about the government's ongoing economic reforms, the challenges being faced, and the measures being implemented to tackle them.
