Patience pays off with Class A boys' cross country title for Bethlehem's Howard
Howard finished with a time of 15:47.6, just over four seconds faster than Saratoga Springs' BrentPasek.
Calvin Howard of Bethlehem claimed the Class A boys' cross country title at the Section 2 championships held at Queensbury High School on Saturday. The 5-kilometer race course was soaked from rain earlier in the day. Howard surged ahead from Saratoga's Brent Pasek in the final 800 meters, crossing the finish line in 15:47.6, just over four seconds ahead of Pasek.
Howard had been cautious early in the race, saving his strength for the final stretch. Pasek's Saratoga teammates secured the team title, advancing to next week's state championship at Queensbury.
