Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding has accepted responsibility for the team's failure to pursue Oklahoma in the CFP chase following their 42-7 loss to Georgia. In an address to his players, Golding emphasized the need for improvement, stating that they must focus on fixing issues within the team. The Rebels appeared fatigued after a string of high-profile games, with quarterback Trinidad Chambliss falling short of expectations, failing to pass for over 200 yards and getting intercepted by Georgia's defense.
Ole Miss was outpaced in rushing yards, with 295 compared to Georgia's 66. The team has been mathematically eliminated from SEC title contention, leaving the focus on securing a spot in the CFP championship game. Golding's tenure as head coach has been largely positive, but the recent loss casts a shadow over his future prospects.
