Jon Rahm wins Abu Dhabi Golf Championship on debut

On his debut at the Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship, Spanish golfer Jon Rahm emerged victorious, defeating a field that included golfing icons Rory McIlroy and Tyrrell Hatton. The tournament, held on the picturesque Yas Links, saw Rahm secure a two-stroke lead over his competitors. This win marked the first of his career since 2023's Masters, a period during which he was primarily occupied with LIV Golf.

The Spaniard's return to the traditional tours was celebrated with a resounding victory, following his recent departure from the breakaway circuit. His closest rival, Hatton, had previously partnered Rahm on the LIV tour, now set to be discontinued. Despite not being seen on the European Tour for some time, Rahm's performance at the Abu Dhabi event was a testament to his newfound affinity for the course.

McIlroy, who had played in Abu Dhabi 15 times, had now suffered a second runner-up finish in three years. This win was particularly significant for Rahm's Spanish compatriots, as it was his second Falcon Trophy victory, the first being achieved by Pablo Larrazabal in 2014. The win also bolstered Rahm's position at the top of the Race to Dubai, positioning him favorably for the final tournament of the season in Dubai.
