Fans rejoiced over a goal scored against their own team during a Série B match in Brazil. The incident occurred in the penultimate round of the season, as the home fans of Náutico celebrated a goal scored by their opponents, CRB. The match took place at Aflitos stadium, the home of Timbu. The unusual celebration was fueled by the intense local rivalry between Náutico and CRB, both vying for promotion to the top division.
With Náutico no longer in contention for the league title, their fans were happy to see the rival team achieve a 3-0 victory. The match's board had made an early decision to send nine players, including key starters, on holiday, which drew criticism from other clubs in the state of Pernambuco. Atlético-GO, another team competing for promotion, expressed their disapproval of the tactic, stating that playing to lose was an unsportsmanlike approach.
The Brazilian Série B Championship is known for its fierce competition, and all clubs are expected to respect the spirit of the sport until the very end.
