BJP, JD(S) leaders cannot tolerate guarantee schemes reaching all beneficiaries: Karnataka CM Shivakumar

Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar stated that the populace of the state recognized the guarantee schemes would be discontinued should the BJP assume governance, and consequently, they would not elect the party to rule in the state. Addressing reporters upon his arrival in Hassan on Sunday, November 8, 2026, Mr. Shivakumar asserted that opposition leaders had been vocal in their criticism of the guarantee schemes.

"The schemes are reaching all eligible beneficiaries. The leaders of the BJP and the JD(S) cannot tolerate this," he declared.

Former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy alleged that Hassan Deputy Commissioner K.S. Latha Kumari retained her position by bribing the district in-charge Minister. However, Kumari refuted these allegations, stating that she has never engaged in any illegal activities.

Mr. Shivakumar contended that the Congress party initiated the guarantee schemes in response to the surge in prices following fuel price hikes. "We are aiding families grappling with the price surge. We are also providing a subsidy of ₹5,000 to farmers. The subsidy for free power for irrigation pump sets has risen to ₹30,000 crore," he explained.

Concerning the recent spike in milk prices, Shivakumar noted that the existing prices in Karnataka are lower than those in other states. "The BJP has been unable to secure funds from the Center for the State. It has failed to curb the rise in diesel and petrol prices. It has also failed to address the predicament of sugarcane growers. Their grievances are legitimate, but the BJP shows no empathy for farmers," Shivakumar alleged.

During his visit to Hassan, the Chief Minister toured the Hasanamba temple alongside his spouse Usha. They also paid a visit to the Puradamma temple in Beekanahalli of Hassan taluk. Over one lakh beneficiaries declined to participate in the Gruha Jyothi survey. Additionally, more than 73,78,352 homes were scrutinized within the Bescom jurisdiction, out of the total 74,29,773 homes.
