Kalyan: The Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) in Kalyan has chosen to forgo its annual Diwali festivities this year, directing the funds toward supporting drought-stricken farmers in Maharashtra. The Ravi Patil Foundation contributed Rs 5,55,555 for the relief of distressed farmers. The cheque was presented to the Dr Shrikant Shinde Foundation by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
While Kalyan's Shiv Sena unit typically holds cultural programs and festive gatherings during Diwali, including its traditional Diwali Pahat programme, this year the celebration was cancelled due to the severe challenges faced by farmers. The party leadership decided to allocate the festival expenses towards humanitarian assistance instead of celebrations.
The Ravi Patil Foundation stepped in with a generous donation of Rs 5,55,555, routed through the Dr Shrikant Shinde Foundation to aid farmers affected by the drought. The decision showcases the Kalyan city unit's commitment to standing with the farming community during their time of need, emphasizing that supporting those in distress holds greater importance than festive celebrations.
