Russian attacks kill 2, injure 37 across Ukraine over past day, hit substations connecting nuclear power plants to Kyiv

Russian attacks killed two people and injured 37 others across Ukraine over the past day, targeting substations that connect nuclear power plants to the capital city of Kyiv, according to Ukrainian authorities. In a strategic nighttime assault, Russia hit a substation in Kyiv Oblast that supplies electricity to nuclear power plants in the western Rivne and Khmelnytskyi regions, as well as to Kyiv and other central areas, President Volodymyr Zelensky reported on Nov. 7. The attack also damaged substations in Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Kharkiv, and Dnipro oblasts.

Russian forces have prepared for trilateral talks by launching ballistic missiles at Ukraine's critical infrastructure, including 36 ballistic missiles aimed at Kyiv and the surrounding region. Ukraine's air defenses intercepted 149 Russian drones, including 117 jet-powered ones, while four missiles were destroyed. Drones impacted 24 locations, with falling debris reported at ten sites, according to Ukrainian air force reports. Kyiv bore the brunt of the missile attack.

At least six people in Kyiv were injured, and residential buildings, as well as the Northern Bridge, were damaged. Russian attacks in the Bucha and Obukhiv districts killed one person and injured two others. Beyond Kyiv, twelve other regions were struck by Russian forces. In Sumy Oblast, 60 attacks on 22 settlements resulted in the death of a 52-year-old man and ten injuries.

Kherson Oblast saw 40 attacks on settlements, injuring seven people. Dnipropetrovsk Oblast experienced attacks on four districts, injuring six people. Donetsk Oblast recorded four injuries, while Zaporizhzhia Oblast reported one injury.

Russian troops conducted 848 attacks on 55 settlements in the Kharkiv Oblast, injuring a 55-year-old woman. In Vinnytsia Oblast, rescue equipment and a State Emergency Service building were damaged, along with civilian infrastructure near a local market and various vehicles, resulting in one injury.
