Qatar says its mediation efforts between US and Iran continue to prevent escalation

Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, has stated that his country's ongoing mediation between the US and Iran is preventing the region from descending into chaos, according to Al Jazeera TV. Despite the US presidential election, Washington's commitment to resolving the crisis remains unchanged, the leader asserted.

Al-Thani expressed optimism about reaching a settlement, emphasizing that a satisfactory agreement is the ultimate goal. Iran's semi-official news agency, Tasnim, reported on Saturday that initial investigations suggest two missiles hit Qeshm Island, though no official data on potential damage was available. The ongoing standoff between Tehran and Washington continues to be a major concern in the region.

As of now, the US has not declared any military action against Iranian targets. The absence of strikes by the US ahead of Tuesday's midterm elections has led to speculation that President Donald Trump might refrain from any retaliatory actions. Iran has consistently proposed a seven-day plan, demanding the lifting of sanctions on Iranian ports, unfreezing of assets, and the approval of an Iranian-backed route through the Strait of Hormuz. However, President Trump has dismissed this proposal so far.
