Nallur toll plaza on Kolkata National Highway to be moved to Durainallur

The National Highways Authority of India has devised a plan to relocate the toll plaza situated at Nallur on the Chennai-Kolkata National Highway. The relocated plaza will be situated at Durainallur, approximately 13 kilometers away from its current position. Nallur plaza has earned a reputation for causing lengthy delays during peak traffic hours.

Motorists who have grown weary of waiting at the existing Nallur plaza will benefit from this relocation. "Residents who live in areas like Karanodai, Janapanchathiram, Nallur, and Periyapalayam will find the shift very convenient," stated K. Suresh Kumar, a local resident. Ramesh, another local citizen, proposed narrowing the road width at that particular location, as the current width exceeds the standard road width, making crossing difficult.

He also suggested normalizing the road stretch and regularizing the shops. According to sources within the NHAI, the present location is no longer fit for purpose due to several newly constructed roads nearby, which allow road users to circumvent the plaza. Consequently, this relocation will result in a revenue loss. "The plaza is also situated within municipal limits, necessitating its relocation outside," explained a source.

The current agency managing the plaza's contract will expire by May next year. The organization hopes to finalize the design for the new plaza by then. Approximately 50,000 passenger car units traverse that road on a daily basis. The plaza is also anticipated to be a multi-lane free-flow tolling system without toll booths and operators.
