Melinda French Gates shows 3 office items that bring her ‘joy’
In her office, Melinda Gates displayed personal items that reflect her dedication to advancing women's rights. A figurine of Ruth Bader Ginsburg stands out, underscoring the crucial role of women in leadership. The board game 'The Exciting Game of Career Girls' from the 1950s serves as a nostalgic nod to women's evolving career paths.
Bill Gates' ex-wife and philanthropist Melinda Gates shared a glimpse into her personal office on Instagram, highlighting three items that bring her joy and reinforce her commitment to women's advancement. The video, which has garnered over 1.2 million views, showcases a figurine of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a vintage board game called "The Exciting Game of Career Girls," and an artwork featuring the word "JOY."
Ginsburg's figurine serves as a reminder of the late justice's powerful statement: "Women belong in all places where decisions are made." The quote is prominently displayed in the office tour, aligning with Melinda Gates' philanthropic efforts focused on women's health and gender equality. Through her organization Pivotal, founded in 2015, she has invested heavily in women's health and gender equality initiatives, recently pledging an additional $215 million to the cause.
The board game, originally from the 1950s, depicts women in roles such as nurse, stewardess, and teacher, emphasizing the progress made in women's career opportunities. Melinda Gates noted that the game serves as a reminder of the significant advancements women have achieved in various fields. The artwork above her desk, composed of small human figures spelling out "JOY," symbolizes shared happiness and community.
Each figure represents an individual, and the artwork embodies the idea that collective joy is amplified when shared with others.
