'Let Him Focus on Getting Better': Harsha Bhogle Questions Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Appointment As Bihar Captain

Veteran cricket analyst Harsha Bhogle has voiced his concerns over the recent appointment of 16-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as the captain of the Bihar team. The young left-hander has been entrusted with the leadership role in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Bhogle expressed his reservations, stating that he is not convinced if it is the optimal choice to make a teenager the captain of a state side cricket team.

While acknowledging the importance of young players grasping match situations, taking responsibility, and developing decision-making skills, Bhogle believes that placing Sooryavanshi under such a high-pressure situation could be detrimental. He argued that at this juncture, the teenager should concentrate on honing his skills and improving his performance rather than being burdened with additional responsibility.

Bhogle's stance on the matter came to light in a post on his social media account, where he wrote, "I am not sure it is the best idea to make a 16 year old the captain of the state side. Yes, he needs to understand situations and learn to take decisions but at this stage, he can do without the extra attention we are heaping on him and just focus on getting better and better."

Sooryavanshi is set to play just one match for Bihar in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy before heading to Doha. Additionally, he is slated to join the India A squad for the upcoming Rising Stars Emerging Asia Cup. Despite his young age, the Bihar selectors have wholeheartedly supported Sooryavanshi for the captaincy position, acknowledging his potential and fearless attitude in the shortest format of the game.
