HK authorities nab another traveller from Malaysia with cocaine in shoes

Hong Kong authorities have apprehended another individual at Hong Kong International Airport, this time originating from Malaysia and suspected of drug trafficking. The 36-year-old man was apprehended during customs clearance after officers discovered packets of suspected cocaine concealed within his shoes. The incident occurred on Wednesday when the man arrived at the airport from Kuala Lumpur.

The Hong Kong Customs department revealed that the cocaine found in the man's possession weighed approximately 1kg and had an estimated value of HK$600,000 (or roughly RM311,000). The investigation into this matter remains ongoing. Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance of the special administrative region, individuals convicted of drug trafficking face severe penalties, including life imprisonment and a fine of up to HK$5 million (approximately RM2.59 million).

This arrest follows a recent series of incidents involving drug trafficking through concealed items, notably shoes. In a previous case, a Chinese national traveling from Kuala Lumpur was apprehended by Hong Kong customs for smuggling 1kg of cocaine hidden inside his footwear. Additionally, in July, two other passengers arriving from Kuala Lumpur were arrested by customs officers after cocaine was found concealed in their shoes.
