Sokoto State Governor Dr. Ahmed Aliyu has doubled the state allowance for corps members, increasing it from N10,000 to N20,000. As part of the gesture, each corps member currently in camp was also given N30,000. The governor made this announcement during the swearing-in ceremony of Batch 'C' Stream 2 corps members at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp in Sokoto.
At the request of the State Coordinator, Aliyu also donated a new Toyota Hilux to the scheme for effective supervision, especially in challenging terrains. The state government has spent over N1 billion on renovating the Permanent Orientation Camp at Wamakko, with the project now 90% complete. Aliyu emphasized the importance of corps members in promoting national integration and urged state agencies not to reject any corps member posted to them.
A committee will be set up for implementing the new allowance. NYSC State Coordinator Mr. Tyoyer Gabriel Ter thanked Aliyu for his benevolent gesture, predicting that he will be honored as the best NYSC-friendly governor. The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar, and the Nigerian Army, DSS, Police, NSCDC, Man O’ War and philanthropists also contributed to the camp's success. The Chief Judge of the state administered the oath of allegiance to the corps members.
