Delta govt splashes N2bn on 2026 pilgrimage as citizens cry over hardship

The Delta State Government has allocated more than N2 billion to facilitate Christian pilgrims' journey to Israel and Jordan for the 2026 pilgrimage. Erijo Etacherure, the State Commissioner for the Bureau of Special Duties, announced this during a briefing in Asaba, addressing media personnel from the pilgrimage. Etacherure indicated that the Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) will commence the screening process for prospective pilgrims on November 11, with the screening taking place at the Christian Association of Nigeria Secretariat in Asaba.

He emphasized that the registration forms must be completed and submitted by November 9, with completed forms to be sent to the Executive Secretary of the Delta State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board. Failure to meet the deadline will result in disqualification from the screening process. Pilgrims are required to present a valid ECOWAS international passport.

Etacherure warned that those who have previously received state-funded trips to Israel or Jordan are ineligible for the 2026 pilgrimage.
