Concerning news regarding Deshaun Watson surfaced on Friday as the Cleveland Browns announced that second-year quarterback Shedeur Sanders would start in their Week 9 game against the New Orleans Saints. Last Sunday, Watson suffered a concussion during Cleveland's 27-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The NFL's medical protocols require players to pass a series of tests before returning to action, and Watson has been under concussion protocol since then.
Despite returning to practice on Friday, Watson remains in the protocol and has not yet cleared it. The Cleveland Browns, who have a winning record, could potentially improve to 6-3 with a victory in Week 9 if Sanders starts and plays effectively.
