Bukit Aman: Over 6,000 police personnel deployed nationwide to step up Deepavali security patrols

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 — In preparation for Deepavali celebrations, the Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) has deployed a force of 6,395 police officers and personnel. The deployment includes 1,734 Mobile Patrol Vehicles (MPVs), manned by 4,332 officers, 1,732 Motorcycle Patrol Units (URBs) with 1,800 officers, and 263 Tourist Police Unit (UPP) personnel.

Director Noor Hisam Nordin explained that the goal was to increase police presence, bolster crime prevention efforts, and ensure public safety throughout the festivities. Priority will be given to residential areas, crime-prone locations, city centres, commercial areas, and public hotspots. Patrols will be conducted continuously, round the clock, in a shift system, using MPVs, URBs, and UPP personnel.

Real-time monitoring will be conducted using Mobile Card Acceptance Device (MCAD) devices to ensure personnel adhere to their designated patrol areas. In addition to patrols, UPP personnel will engage in Stop and Talk activities to provide safety advice and gather information on local security conditions. While overall property crime cases have slightly declined by 0.33% for the week leading up to Deepavali, theft remains the leading contributor, accounting for 50.46% of such cases.

Motorcycle theft cases have decreased slightly, while car theft numbers have remained steady, with van, lorry, and heavy machinery thefts showing a reduction. Housebreaking cases have also decreased, but continued vigilance and increased patrols are crucial to maintain public safety during the celebrations.
