Dynamic senior workhorse Trey Toliver racked up 276 yards and four touchdowns in a Region 17 quarterfinal victory over Purple Riders.
Barnesville senior Trey Toliver dominated the OHSAA Division V, Region 17 football playoffs, leading his Shamrocks to a 35-18 victory over Martins Ferry. The game at Shamrock Stadium saw Toliver rack up 276 yards and four touchdowns on 28 carries, surpassing his previous season totals. This performance not only secured Barnesville's perfect season at 11-0 but also advanced them to face Girard in the regional semifinal.
In the first matchup between the Ohio Conference rivals, Martins Ferry had managed to contain Toliver in a tight 25-21 win earlier in the season. However, in the crucial postseason game, the Purple Riders were left to watch as Toliver dismantled their defense with touchdown runs of 60, 20, and 27 yards, solidifying his status as one of the state's premier running backs.
