Atletico Madrid vs Barcelona: La Liga – predictions, team news, lineups
Barcelona and Atletico clash on Sunday in a blockbuster encounter which could upend the La Liga title race this season.
Atletico Madrid chief Enrique Cerezo has described Sunday’s match against Barcelona as a "special game" for Julian Alvarez, following the Catalan club's pursuit of the striker over the summer. Despite Alvarez publicly expressing his desire to join Barcelona, Atletico refused to sell him and he has since apologized to fans. Cerezo believes the game will hold immense significance for Alvarez, urging him to focus on playing well and scoring goals for his current club.
The Atletico chief emphasized that the team is performing well and aims to improve their Champions League performance, ultimately aiming to finish among the top eight teams. When asked about how he would respond if Barcelona's Joan Laporta inquired about Alvarez's situation during the game, Cerezo delivered a straightforward answer, indicating that he would provide the necessary response.
Barcelona have shown strong goal-scoring form this season, utilizing Raphinha in the No. 9 position, and have moved on from the prospect of Alvarez joining their ranks, with their coach Deco describing the situation as "in the past."
