Trump signs order preventing future presidents from changing Oval Office

On Thursday, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order that will prevent future presidents from making significant changes to the White House Oval Office. The former real estate mogul has already altered the president's official office during his second term, notably by adding gold features to its walls. Trump stated that the Oval Office will be designated as a national monument, and it will not be allowed to be altered, destroyed, or modified in any way.

According to the order, the National Park Service will be responsible for maintaining the Oval Office in a manner that preserves its historic character, architectural integrity, and association with the presidency. The current Oval Office has existed since the early 1930s, following its conception by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Experts in historic preservation argue that temporary changes like furniture and decor are within the president's discretion, as long as they do not damage permanent art and architecture. However, Trump's administration has faced criticism for its massive beautification projects in Washington and efforts to undermine laws that require preservation of historic sites.
