Sony Revives Its Classic MDR-3 Wired Headphones, Now With USB-C

Sony is reviving its classic MDR-3 wired headphones, giving the iconic audio product a new life with a modern twist. The refreshed model, now called the MDR-3R, retains the retro design of the original headphones introduced in 1979, featuring a slim adjustable metal headband and angular hinges. Weighing just 38g, the headphones provide a lightweight design and offer interchangeable foam earpads in blue and orange options. Sony has also recreated the original packaging and instruction manual, adding a nostalgic appeal.

The MDR-3R maintains the original's 23mm driver units, re-engineered based on the original design drawings, delivering a wider frequency range and improved bass response. The headphones feature an open acoustic design with sound holes on the earcups, allowing for a wider soundstage but potentially resulting in some sound leakage.

They also include a built-in microphone and three-button inline controls for managing music playback, track skipping, volume adjustment, answering calls, and summoning the device's voice assistant.

A limited-edition Stranger Things variant of the MDR-3R is also available, featuring a black headband with branding from the show, along with interchangeable black and red earpads. The headphones are priced at RM259 for the regular model and RM299 for the limited edition in Malaysia. The MDR-3R can be pre-ordered through Sony Malaysia's official website, with the regular model expected to arrive next week and the limited edition released in December 2026.

This revival could be an attractive option for those who prefer wired headphones for listening to music on their smartphones, working on computers, or gaming on handheld PCs, particularly for those with Sony's current Walkman music players.

Stop Hand-Rolling JSON Lines With WriteLine. .NET 11 Writes Them for You

TL;DR: JsonSerializer.SerializeAsyncEnumerable(stream, items, topLevelValues: true) writes canonical JSON Lines: one compact value per line, LF after every one.

  • .NET 11 introduces JSONL writing with JsonSerializer.SerializeAsyncEnumerable
  • topLevelValues parameter creates JSON Lines format with newline separation
  • PipeWriter overload enables streaming JSONL endpoints in ASP.NET Core
