Selangor orders halt to development work in Puncak Alam

Selangor's Chief Minister Amirudin Shari has announced a freeze on all development projects in Puncak Alam, Kuala Selangor, pending reassessment of flood risks and environmental impacts. The Public Works Department will temporarily close Jalan Batu Arang in Rawang for repairs to a collapsed bank. The state government is prioritizing flood mitigation efforts in high-risk zones, given the frequent rainfall, Amirudin stated in a recent statement.

Amirudin acknowledged the inconvenience the recent heavy rains have caused, particularly to commuters and families. He emphasized that the public expects honest answers from government agencies and expects them to take swift action to protect lives and property. The state will provide up to RM1,500 in aid from national and state disaster management agencies to help flood victims with repairs and clean-up efforts.

Early warnings will be issued to motorists in flood-prone areas, and the drainage and irrigation department will immediately divert water to prevent further damage.

All relevant agencies have been assigned the collective responsibility to ensure rapid maintenance of drains and rivers, in line with the urgent need to address the climate change crisis. The Chief Minister stressed that the public will not tolerate any excuses from authorities if floods occur, and they only wish to live safely without the constant threat of harm.
