Police present N9m to 21 deceased officers’ families

The Abia State Police Command has presented cheques totaling N9,054,644.57 to the families of 21 deceased officers. The distribution occurred under the Group Life Assurance and Inspector-General of Police Family Welfare Scheme. State Commissioner of Police Afolabi Wilfred presented the cheques at a ceremony held at the Abia State Police Command headquarters in Umuahia.

Wilfred extended condolences to the bereaved families, emphasizing that monetary compensation could not replace their lost loved ones. He stressed the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to the welfare of its personnel and its ongoing support for their families after their death. The presentation of the cheques is described as a demonstration of the police force's institutional commitment and a mark of respect for the sacrifices made by the deceased officers.

Wilfred encouraged the beneficiaries to view this as a testament to the force's enduring responsibility towards the families they left behind. He also prayed for the strength, comfort, and eternal rest of the departed officers' families. Mrs Oyebuchi Gloria, widow of the late Inspector Oyebuchi Henry Ndemeka, expressed her gratitude for the gesture, stating that the cheque would significantly aid her and her children.

She emphasized that while the cheque could not compensate for her husband's life, it would bring comfort to her family. Another beneficiary thanked the Federal Government and the Nigeria Police Force, noting that monetary compensation could never replace the love of a late husband and father.
