Petitions to Replace Chuck Schumer Pass 100,000 Signatures Day After Launch
The petitions, both created on Wednesday, come on the heels of sweeping Democratic wins this midterm cycle.
A petition calling for Senate Democrats to choose a new majority leader surpassed 100,000 signatures on its first day after launching. The petition, titled "Senate Democrats: CHOOSE A NEW MAJORITY LEADER," argues that Schumer is not the right choice for leadership. Another petition, "Replace Chuck Schumer as Senate Majority Leader," garnered 75,402 signatures.
Both petitions criticize Schumer for opposing progressive policies and taking money from pro-Israel lobbies. Newly elected Democratic senators, such as Troy Jackson and Adam Hamilton, have also stated they will not back Schumer.
