Najib’s lawyer, special officer enter KL Court Complex as RM50m fine payment speculation mounts

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 — Lawyers linked to former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak were seen entering the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex in Jalan Duta today, as reports circulated about a potential payment of the RM50 million fine imposed on him. Lawyer Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee arrived at the complex at noon, with Najib's special officer Ahmad Lutfi Azhar having entered earlier at 11.35am.

Lutfi informed journalists that a statement would follow once the matter was resolved. Both men were later spotted entering the High Court Criminal Registry office together, with Farhan smiling as he entered without providing any details. The scene was surrounded by reporters and increased police presence, with barricades set up at the entrance.

Najib, 73, has been incarcerated at Kajang Prison since August 23, 2022, following the Federal Court's confirmation of his conviction for misappropriating RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd. His sentence was originally 12 years in jail and a RM210 million fine, but was reduced in January 2024 by the Federal Territories Pardons Board to six years and RM50 million.

Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, granted Najib a conditional pardon on September 18, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028, if the fine and other stipulations are fulfilled.
