Motorcyclist sheltering from rain under Sungai Petani flyover dies after being run over by trailer, another seriously hurt

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 — A motorcyclist tragically lost his life and another suffered serious injuries after a trailer struck them while they sought shelter from the rain under a flyover near Sungai Petani. The incident occurred early this morning at Kilometre 96.2 of the North-South Expressway, according to Kuala Muda district police chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan. The two victims, both 23-year-old men from the same village, had stopped under the flyover to avoid getting soaked in the rain.

As they were trying to avoid another motorcycle that had stopped to take shelter under the same flyover, both of their Yamaha Y15ZR machines collided. The force of the impact caused their bikes to scrape the side of the trailer in the same lane. The unfortunate trailer then ran over both riders, resulting in Mohd Khairul A’zami Mohd Nazeri's death at the scene. Nazeri, from Kampung Permatang Kong, Mukim Padang Hang, Alor Setar, was pronounced dead on arrival at Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital.

His fellow rider is currently receiving medical treatment at the same hospital. The pair were reportedly traveling in the left lane from Alor Setar towards Sungai Petani when they stopped under the flyover. The 40-year-old trailer driver, who hails from Bayan Lepas, Penang, was not injured and tested negative for drugs during an initial screening. Police are now investigating the incident under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
