Thomas Markle, 82, father of Meghan Markle, was arrested in Florida on Friday over alleged possession of child sexual abuse images, U.S. officials announced. Markle faces a single charge of possession of child pornography and is scheduled to attend his first court appearance in Tampa on Friday, according to U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli.
Prosecutors allege Markle had child sexual abuse material, including photos of himself with minor girls, in two storage units he rented for nearly two decades in the Los Angeles area. FBI agents seized around 78 items, including slides, film negatives, and books, during the raid at the retirement home where Markle resides in Lakeland, Florida.
The Justice Department asserts that Markle allegedly maintained the collection, which included sexually explicit images of prepubescent girls, and they will pursue the case to the fullest extent of federal law.
