María Corina Machado renews call for the release of political prisoners outside a Venezuelan prison

Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado called on the government of acting President Delcy Rodríguez to release all political detainees outside a prison in Guatire, a community 31 miles east of Caracas, on Friday. The opposition figure, who returned from exile less than two weeks ago, joined relatives of dozens of detainees in a demonstration outside the facility.

Rodríguez’s administration, under pressure from the United States, has begun releasing political prisoners since Nicolás Maduro's deposition in January, but hundreds remain incarcerated for political reasons. Machado read out the names of the imprisoned before chanting their names and urging the government to free them all.
