Loke letak jawatan menteri berkuat kuasa bila Najib ‘masuk rumah’

Loke Siew Fook, deputy president of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), confirmed on Friday that the power-sharing ministerial position will be handed over to him once former Prime Minister Najib Razak completes his house arrest. Loke, who was appointed as Transport Minister in September 2022, took office after Najib received conditional pardon.

The RM50 million payment was reportedly settled in the High Court this morning, according to Loke during a media briefing. Despite reports claiming Najib has left the Kajang Prison, Deputy Interior Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail confirmed he is currently being transported to a medical clinic for a scheduled check-up (and not yet back home).

Loke further stated that his resolve remains unchanged and he will fulfill his promise to relinquish the ministerial position. This development follows confirmation from Najib's lawyer, Farhan Shafee, that the High Court issued a home arrest order for his son, stemming from a RM50 million fine repayment. Umno had previously stated that the party had settled the fine imposed on its former president after successfully raising funds through a charity donation drive launched in September.
