How to Wire 64 Specialist AI Agents Without Prompt Drift

Building multi-agent systems often sounds great until you actually try running sequential tasks. You start with a clear architecture spec, and by step four, your LLM has forgotten half its constraints. To fix this, I stopped using monolithic system prompts and built an open-source framework of 64 specialized agent roles tied to strict execution runbooks. The Problem: Context Degradation Across…

Creating a system of 64 AI agents to handle specialized tasks can be challenging, but it provides a solution to the issue of context degradation that occurs when generalist AI agents attempt to manage multiple complex responsibilities at once. To address this problem, I abandoned the use of monolithic system prompts and instead developed an open-source framework featuring 64 distinct agent roles, each tied to specific execution runbooks.

The primary issue with using a generalist AI agent is that the attention mechanism can dilute critical constraints, leading to inaccuracies in performing tasks. To tackle this, the solution is to create isolated agent schemas that focus on specific roles, such as an API Contract Validator or an Edge-Case Test Engineer. Structured JSON handoffs between these distinct system prompts allow for more accurate and efficient task execution.

To illustrate the concept of isolating context boundaries, the following Python/CLI example shows how to invoke an isolated agent role:

```
npx ai-product-team execute --role architecture-validator --input ./spec.json
```

The entire project is open-source, and you can view and contribute to the complete set of 64 agent personas, runbooks, and CLI integrations on GitHub: <https://github.com/3orionkings/ai-product-team>. The framework includes 28 shared methods and 12 workflows for building AI features in Claude Code and Codex. It only runs the roles required for a given request and maintains an evidence ledger to track each conclusion's source.

The AI Product Team orchestrator role sits at the top, and three directors (Product, Engineering, and Assurance) are positioned between it and the respective teams. This setup prevents the loss of requirement sources, open questions becoming accepted facts, the tests passing for the wrong code, and agents misinterpreting their completion status. Browse every role in the agent directory to understand the organization better.
