Gold Fields Reshapes Health Care Delivery …Imports Incubators, Anaesthetic Machines, Etc, For Hospitals In Tarkwa Nsuaem, Prestea-Huni Valley

The Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, in collaboration with the non-profit organization Project CURE, has recently made a significant investment in healthcare delivery for public facilities in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem and Prestea-Huni Valley municipalities of Ghana's Western Region. Over US$793,491.75 worth of medical equipment and supplies, including incubators, anaesthesia machines, hospital beds, imaging devices, and personal protective equipment, were delivered to the facilities.

The value of this donation extends beyond its financial worth, as the equipment is already transforming healthcare delivery and the working conditions of healthcare professionals in the area. At Atuabo Hospital, Dr Paa Kweku Eghan noted that the availability of new equipment has made patient examination more efficient, particularly for ear issues, which can now be accurately diagnosed using an otoscope.

The availability of a nebuliser has also allowed doctors to manage acute asthma cases without referring patients elsewhere, reducing distress for patients and improving treatment outcomes.

In a similar vein, the Huniso CHPS facility has experienced improvements in maternal healthcare, with a new adjustable delivery bed significantly enhancing the comfort of expectant mothers during delivery. Additionally, the new equipment has increased the facility's capacity to accommodate more women in labour simultaneously, eliminating the need to refer some cases to a larger facility in Tarkwa.

Overall, the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation's partnership with Project CURE has demonstrated the critical role that appropriate medical equipment and supplies play in improving healthcare quality and accessibility for both patients and healthcare workers in Ghana's rural communities.
