GBA offers limitless opportunities for laywers: Lam

Hong Kong Secretary for Justice Paul Lam has encouraged legal professionals from the two Special Administrative Regions (SARs) to obtain Greater Bay Area (GBA) practice qualifications in order to take advantage of the GBA's vast opportunities. The GBA lawyers' scheme, which permits those qualified to practice in nine mainland cities, was formalized in September following a six-year pilot program.

During the Second Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Lawyers Forum held during Legal Week, Lam stated that over 700 legal practitioners from Hong Kong and Macau have already acquired the qualification. The GBA's unique characteristic of "one country, two systems and three jurisdictions" is emphasized by Lam, who highlights the area as a pioneer for dual practice-qualified lawyers.

He further points out that the GBA boasts the highest degree of openness and strongest economic vitality in the country. In response to the GBA's growing importance, Lam notes that Hong Kong will enhance the alignment of regulations and laws to uphold the rule of law within the GBA, as outlined in its inaugural five-year plan. With more than 900 attendees at the forum held at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai, either in person or online, Lam urges participants to seize the opportunity to understand the latest GBA developments, capitalize on new opportunities, and expand into new fields.
