EESL plans to popularise clean cooking with affordable e-cooking solutions

Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has announced plans to promote clean cooking through affordable electric solutions, as part of their National Efficient Cooking Programme (NECP). The initiative aims to enhance household safety, affordability, and environmental sustainability by encouraging the adoption of electric cooking technologies in homes, not just workplaces.

EESL CEO Akhilesh Kumar Dixit unveiled a special report on accelerating e-cooking solutions, which includes a public offer for a 1,200 watt induction cook-top with compatible cookware priced at ₹6,990 per unit, inclusive of taxes. Advisor to EESL A. Chandra Sekhar Reddy explained that induction cooking eliminates open flames and combustion, lowering risks such as fire hazards and accidental gas leakages associated with traditional flame-based cooking methods.

The technology also provides better temperature control, convenience, and a cleaner indoor cooking environment. With induction cook-tops transferring nearly 85% of energy directly to the cooking vessel, compared to around 40% efficiency in conventional LPG cooking, e-cooking can significantly reduce energy wastage. Depending on prevailing electricity tariffs and LPG prices, e-cooking can also result in considerable savings for households, especially those using non-subsidized LPG.
