Ed Boon Wants to Know What Fans Want the Next Mortal Kombat Game to Be Called
Ed Boon is stirring up excitement in the fighting game community after releasing a poll asking fans what they’d like the next Mortal Kombat installment to be called.
Ed Boon, co-creator of Mortal Kombat, has recently launched a poll to gauge fan interest in naming the upcoming installment. The series recently ceased receiving updates for its latest game, MK1, and has been absent from competitive tournaments. Boon confirmed the next Mortal Kombat game was in development in May 2026 but the project has been silent since then.
Boon posted two polls on X/Twitter, one asking for a potential name, and the other comparing it to Marvel's upcoming fighting games, Marvel Tokon 2 by Arc System Works and Marvel vs Capcom 4. The majority of fans chose MvC4, while 43% voted for Mortal Kombat 2, 33% for Mortal Kombat 13, and 23% for Mortal Kombat 12.
