Zoomlion Lands In Guinea: Conakry’s waste revolution begins

Ghana's waste management firm Zoomlion has entered into a landmark public-private partnership with Guinea's government to revolutionize the capital city's waste management system. Prime Minister H.E. Amadou Oury Bah described the collaboration as a continuation of the "historic brotherhood" between the two nations, dating back to their days of independence.

Zoomlion, operating locally as Zoomlion Guinea Integrated Waste Solutions Limited (ZGIWSL), will construct a modern, integrated waste management system for Conakry, shifting the city from the current dumping approach to a circular economy based on recovery, recycling, and resource use.

The deal, signed by the Jospong Group of Companies' Executive Chairman Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong and Prime Minister Bah, will involve managing key transfer stations, organizing collection in major markets, overseeing transport to the Baritodé landfill, and overseeing future recovery facilities. The project, funded by Ghanaian investment, is expected to create between 2,000 and 3,000 jobs in Conakry and professionalize the sanitation sector.

Dr. Agyepong emphasized that the partnership aligns with President Mamadi Doumbouya's vision for Simandou 2040, an initiative to transform Conakry into a clean and modern city. The project will focus on recovering value from the city's waste, with organic waste being turned into compost for farmers and recyclable materials used in local manufacturing, creating green jobs and SME opportunities.

The initiative also aims to improve the ecological restoration of old dumpsites, such as the collapsed Dar-es-Salam landfill that killed 30 people in August 2025.
