You can now play Pillars of Eternity and Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire with a controller on PC from start to finish, thanks to a new update open for testing

Obsidian has announced a new update for Pillars of Eternity and Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire that allows players to use controllers on PC from start to finish. This update, currently in public test form, expands upon the turn-based mode added for the games' tenth anniversary. With this update, players can now experience the entire game using a controller, from character creation to the end credits, in both real-time with pause and turn-based modes.

The support for controllers is built on the console versions and can be easily switched back to a mouse and keyboard if desired. Deadfire's turn-based mode has also been improved, with turns now following each character's speed and combat being more lethal. Players can also switch between turn-based mode and real-time on the fly, and the update includes a host of fixes across combat, quests, audio, and the interface.

Players can use Xbox and PlayStation controllers, as well as the Steam Deck and Steam's Big Picture mode. The new radial menus allow for quick access to abilities, spells, and party commands, and the interface provides helpful button prompts for the chosen controller. Patch 1.3.10.0 includes these changes, with more details available in the patch notes.

Obsidian has not set a specific end date for the public test, but they note that the update will undergo further updates in preparation for a full release. As this is a test version, players can expect some bugs and other issues to arise.
